T G Venkatesh Babu (53), the party’s nominee for Chennai (North), too entered active politics while in college. He completed MSc (Zoology) in Pachaiyappa’s College. A member of the AIADMK general council, he is at present the chairman of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation. He unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections in 2001 from Purasaiwalkam constituency.
T.G. Venkatesh Babu campaigned on the narrow lanes of Kolathur. The sound of a band, crackers and a booming voice coming over speakers brought residents to their doorsteps. On a moped, L. Vijayalakshmi, a party worker, along with scores of other cadres, followed the campaign vehicle, waving party flags.
At Kolathur, which is in need of better infrastructure, Mr. Babu promised speedy completion of infrastructure, including the Ennore-Manali Road project. “Developing the third rail terminal at Royapuram is my priority,” he said, adding a near-impossible claim, “I will make north Chennai pollution free.”

On the other day AIADMK supremo and chief minister J. Jayalalithaa campaigns for her party’s North Chennai candidate T.G. Venkatesh Babu at Tiruvotriyur Theradi ,addressing election rallies while garnering votes for her party’s North Chennai candidate T.G. Venkatesh Babu ,during her second day of campaigning in the city, Ms Jayalalithaa said no other party had deceived the fishermen as the Congress had done. Joining issue with Ms Sonia, the CM said that there was not an iota of truth in Sonia’s remark in Kanyakumari, accusing her regime of not showing concern over the fishermen issue and also claiming credit for the bilateral talks between Sri Lanka and India on the subject.
The Congress claim that it had arranged talks between India and Lanka was a “fraud” the AIADMK supremo said and pointed out that it was her government, which had ensured the release of all Tamil Nadu fishermen before the commencement of talks. “Fishermen will not accept the argument that the AIADMK government had not shown concern on the issue,” she said and added that the fishermen were quite aware that only the AIADMK was their friend.

DMK candidate R Girirajan, a “new face,” is energetically campaigning supported by party workers. The DMK in its rallies largely chooses to target the ruling party and its shortcomings, besides some local issues. Party leader M K Stalin campaigned for him in Tiruvottiyur.
Campaigning in the city for DMK’s NorthChennai candidate R. Girirajan, The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) treasurer M.K. Stalin  described Chief Minister Jayalalithaa as a political leader “lacking in credibility”, and alleged that her past actions smacked of self-interest. Mr. Stalin said though the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) was part of the BJP-led NDA in1998, she had delayed handing over her party’s letter of support to thePresident in favour of the BJP then. “Later, she blackmailed A.B. Vajpayee’s government and insisted on dismissing the DMK government in Tamil Nadu.
At one point she even accused L.K. Advani of suffering from selective amnesia,” he said,Observing that Ms. Jayalalithaa’s politics was shaped by her personal ambitions, Mr. Stalin said, “She now showed the door for political parties that were part of the AIADMK alliance in the 2011 Assembly elections so that she could project herself as the Prime Minister of the country”.  She also betrayed the Left parties after promising to withdraw her party candidates in their favour in constituencies of their choice, he remarked.
Mr. Stalin said there was a real disconnect between Ms. Jayalalithaa — flying from one spot to another all through her poll campaign so far — and the people of Tamil Nadu.

Soundarapandian DMDK North Chennai Candidate Campaigning in Thiruvottiyur in open air Jeep. General Public Cheers the support to Soundarapandian
Campaigning for his party’s North Chennai candidate, M. Soundarapandian at Kathivakkam, he urged the people to vote for his party candidate to make Modi the Prime Minister. “I will get you clean drinking water and power supply if Modi forms the government at the Centre. We do not have a magic wand to fulfil the promise immediately. But give us two years and we will fulfill promises,” he said.
Denying chief minister Jayalalithaa’s claim that Tamil Nadu has much better development record than Gujarat, the actor turned politician said that Modi’s Gujarat has developed phenomenally. “There is no power cut in Gujarat,” he said. He asked the ruling AIADMK to reveal details of year-wise capacity addition in the state. He said that he was ready to discuss the issue of power crisis to expose the lies of the government.
Criticising the successive governments in the state for failing to bring development in North Chennai, Vijayakanth said that no steps were being taken to develop North Chennai and make it on par with South Chennai.
“Due to thermal power plants and chemical industries, Ennore has become highly polluted. Ground water has become contaminated and people are facing health issues. MPs previously elected from this constituency have taken the side of the industries at the cost of public,” he alleged.
