He Says Every Meeting and Election campaigns Congress, BJP betrayed fishermen: CPI
Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretary S. Krishnan has
lashed out at the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party for betraying
fishermen and accused them of pursuing opportunistic politics to hoodwink the
fishermen for political gains. he said
the Congress and the BJP, which promised to create a separate Ministry for
fisheries, had failed to protect the interest of the fishermen of this region
when they suffered at the hands of the Sri Lankan Navy.
The Congress, which had maintained a ‘stoic silence’ when the Lankan
Navy repeatedly arrested the fishermen, harassed them and destroyed their boats
and fishing nets, was now promising to protect the interest of the fishermen
with an eye on the elections, he alleged.
Similarly, the BJP, the main Opposition party in the Lok Sabha, which
failed to raise its voice in support of the fishermen, was now promising to
establish separate ministry for fisheries, he said.
When the Congress took a stand that Katchatheevu was a closed chapter
and Indian fishermen had no right to fish around the islet, the BJP never asked
the Congress to reconsider the stand, he said. Indifferent
Both the parties were indifferent to the plight of the fishermen as they
saw them as Tamil Nadu fishermen and not Indian fishermen, he charged. Alleging that corporates led a comfortable
life while the poor waged a struggle against price rise, unemployment and
corruption, S. Krishnan appealed to the
people to prevent the Congress from coming back to power and the ‘communal’ BJP
from capturing power. The BJP, which was the face of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak
Sangh (RSS), pursued “anti-minorities and anti-poor policies” and tried to
divide the people on the basis of religion, he alleged.

KALAIMANI K ( Makkal Manadu Katchi )
The election petition was filed by K.
Kalaimani of the Makkal Manadu Katchi seeking to declare as improper, illegal
and void the rejection of his nominations.
He had also prayed the court to set aside
the entire election process.
During its pendency, Mr. Mathiarasan filed
the present application to strike off the election petition and submitted that
there was no cause of action, no triable issue and no single material fact in
the election petition. Mr. Kalaimani contended there was every cause of action,
every triable issue and every material fact in his petition.
Justice Dhanapalan said that Mr. Kalaimani
had specifically stated that at the time of scrutiny, it was mandatory on the
part of the Returning Officer (RO) to grant time to the candidate to rebut till
the next day in case of any objection raised by the RO. But, time was not
granted to him. Hence, there was a violation of principles of natural justice.
Therefore, the factual aspect of any
objection being raised and allowing time to the candidate to rebut the same
till the next day was a triable issue.
Mr. Justice Dhanapalan said that the
application was filed with the ulterior motive of thwarting regular proceedings
of the election petition. In the N.S. Nandiesha Reddy's case, the Supreme Court
had held that when an election petition contained material facts, it was not
liable to be dismissed at the threshold. In that case, the Supreme Court also
imposed costs of Rs.25,000 on the returned candidate to be paid to the election
petitioner.
Makkal Manadu Katchi is dedicated to the
cause of Tamil, Tamilians and Tamilnadu. Makkal Manadu Katchi believes that the
so called Dravidian parties have been attempting to destroy the identity of
Tamil Race by propagating the illusionary theory of Dravidan and further, the
said Dravidian parties having ruled the Tamilnadu for more than 36 years, are
root cause of all problems being faced by the people of Tamilnadu. Makkal
Manadu Katchi also believes that the so called national parties have betrayed
the aspirations of people of Tamilnadu on al most all the issues affecting the
people of Tamilnadu. Thus, Makkal Manadu Katchi strongly believes that the above
said parties should be defeated in the forthcoming Parliamentary election.
Makkal Manadu Katchi propagates a
self-reliant India with growth oriented Economy resulting in eradication of
Poverty and unemployment and Makkal Manadu Katchi believes that India needs to
eradicate corruption at all levels prior to attain an economy resulting in
eradication of Poverty and unemployment as the corruption impliedly denies
peculation of economic growth to the poor and downtrodden people.
Therefore, in addition to the members of
the Makkal Manadu Katchi,it inclines to offer to the general public who have
identical mind-set to get nominated on behalf of Makkal Manadu Katchi and
